About ASIS International

ASIS International is the world’s largest organization of security professionals with over 35,000 members in 180 countries from a wide range of organizations and industries worldwide.  Its members are dedicated to protecting the people, property, and information assets of a diverse group of private and public organizations.

The main activities of ASIS to promote the development of the security professionals all over the world are:

  • Education: Increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing and organizing professional education programs, seminars and materials designed to increase knowledge and information on both the fundamentals and the most recent advancements in security management, improve security practices, and address broad and specific security topic areas.

  • Networking: Supporting the activities of the local chapters to give the members an opportunity to get in touch with other members and security professionals in the network.

  • Career Development: Maintaining the ASIS Security Resource Catalogue.

ASIS International members are management specialists, including managers and directors of security, who formulate security policy and direct security programs for banks, cleared government facilities, communication networks, hotels, museums, educational institutions, hospitals, shopping malls, domestic and foreign governments and countless other business and institutions.  Security administrators from the nation’s leading firms around the world distinguish the current membership roster.  In addition, corporate executives and other management personnel (e.g. human resources, facilities management professionals), as well as consultants, architects, attorneys and federal, state and local law enforcement, are becoming involved with ASIS International to understand the constant changes in security issues and solutions.  Representatives of companies or organizations that supply security equipment, materials and services used by security practitioners can be affiliate members of ASIS.

Since its founding in 1955 as a professional, individual-type membership association, ASIS International has continued to grow.  In recent years, ASIS International has accepted an average of more than 5,000 new members annually.  Committed to advancing professionalism in the field of security, the Society is organized on local, regional and international levels, in a global network of more than 200 chapters.

Membership in ASIS International offers unmatched benefits including:

ASIS International Vision and Mission Statement

The ASIS International Board of Directors has adopted the following vision for the Society:

ASIS International will be the foremost organisation advancing the security profession worldwide.

A key component of achieving this vision is providing professional development opportunities to members and non-members alike.  Professional development includes learning from speakers at the more than 200 ASIS International Chapter meetings throughout the world.  It is also the ability to network with colleagues through the ASIS Dynamics newsletter, the annual membership directory, and the comprehensive Security Industry Buyers Guide.  The more than 35 educational programs conducted each year by ASIS International and the premier event in the industry, the ASIS International Annual Seminar and Exhibits, offer other networking opportunities.  In general, ASIS International views professional development as any Society-sponsored effort that helps practitioners recognise problems and find cost-effective solutions through knowledge, expertise, or interaction with peers and internationally recognised experts.  Professional development is the primary reason for the existence of ASIS International and is a constant focus of attention for the ASIS International volunteer leaders and staff.

The mission of ASIS International is to establish, develop, and promote standards of excellence in the security profession.  This mission requires an organization, together with objectives, goals, and plans, that will assure high standards for membership, ethical conduct, quality educational activities, and a program of professional certification.

To achieve this goal, ASIS International will establish, develop, and promote excellence in the security profession by assuring:

  • High quality educational programs
  • Responsiveness to members’ needs
  • Standards for professional and ethical conduct
  • A forum for debate and the exchange of ideas
  • Promotion of the organization and profession
  • Strategic alliances with related organizations
