Scholarship

 

Part I: General Requirements

 

Donors

 

ASIS International Calgary / Southern Alberta Chapter # 162 and ASIS International Foundation.

 

 

Objective

 

To recognize and to promote a deserving individual in their pursuit of or advancement of their career, in the private/public security profession.

 

 

Value

 

Minimum $500 to a maximum of $2,000, based on:

·              $500 Chapter contribution;

·              $500 ASIS International matching contribution;

·              $500 if recipient is a member in good standing of Chapter # 162;

·              $500 if recipient is awarded Regional VP scholarship award.

 

 

Number of Awards and Chapter Commitment

 

·              One award annually

·              5-year Chapter commitment commencing 2003, with possibility for renewal

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

Where Tenable

 

·              Any fully accredited post-secondary institution and/or

·              Professional development programs as specified by the scholarship program rules. Examples are: APC I, APC II, APC III; CPP Review: ASIS workshops and other programs offered by training and development organizations.

 


 

Residency Requirements

 

·              Applicants must be a resident of southern Alberta as defined by the Chapter # 162 boundaries.

 

Field of Study

 

·              Enrolled full-time or part-time and completed one year in post-secondary studies in the field of criminal justice / security

·              Demonstrated a commitment to pursue or further a career in the private / public security field through education, volunteer work and/or work experience and personal desire.

 

Other Special Considerations

 

·              Recipients are not entitled to hold other scholarships or bursaries in conjunction to this award

·              In the event of either no applicants or no suitable applicant being identified, the scholarship will not be awarded and the annual Scholarship program will be extended one year

 

 

Application Deadline

 

November 1, 2004 and thereafter as determined by the Scholarship Committee.

The Scholarship Committee will confirm receipt of applications within two (2) weeks.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to contact the committee if receipt has not been confirmed.

 


 

Applications are to include:

·              Duly completed and signed application form

·              Official grade transcript and/or copies of certificates of completion for applicable professional development courses

·              Institutional validation of program enrolment (academia applicants) or full description of course or program (professional development applicants), including training organization

·              Recommendation from a faculty member (academia applicants) or a current employer recommendation (professional development applicants).

·              Results of a criminal record check that has been conducted by a local police force.

 

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

 

Applications are subject to confirmation of application particulars.

 

The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to interview prospective recipients.

 

 

Selection Process

 

The Scholarship Committee of ASIS International Chapter # 162 will select the scholarship recipient. Applicants must demonstrate a strong desire to pursue or further a career in public/private security.  Applicants must have an acceptable academic standing (graduate students require a minimum grade point average of 3.0) as well as outstanding qualities in the areas of integrity, leadership and involvement in extra-curricular activities that indicate a commitment to their community’s safety and security.

 

Chapter members who meet the above criteria are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Presentation of Awards

 

The successful scholarship recipient will be notified immediately upon confirmation of approval by ASIS International Headquarters and will be awarded the scholarship with a special ceremony taking place at a meeting of Chapter # 162 in Calgary.
