Welcome to ASIS Chapter
#162,
In cooperation with our
Executive team, I am
very excited to help
lead ASIS Chapter #162
Calgary and Southern
Alberta, into the next
decade. It is very
exciting to see the
growth in our Chapter.
We are extremely active
in the security
community in terms of
offering training to the
membership, a voice in
the legislative arena,
providing networking
opportunities and in
giving back to the
community through annual
donations to
organizations such as
the Calgary Poppy Fund
and Calgary
CrimeStoppers.
Our members possess a
wide range of experience
across the many
disciplines of
the security industry.
This is why our members
are sought after in the
security community as
speakers at conferences,
trainers and as subject
matter experts. We
have a high degree
of participation in our
monthly luncheons and
this speaks to the value
and success of our
program. I encourage you
to attend our monthly
luncheons held at the
Danish Canadian Club
which are organized by
our Vice- Chair, James
Sanford. To those who
are already regular
attendees, please
continue to invite your
colleagues to these
luncheons, especially
those in your business
or industry who may not
be aware of the benefits
that ASIS provides.
Our special events
include the annual
Chapter golf
tournament held in
August and our December
networking Mix &
Mingle. These events
are great opportunities
to have fun while
raising money to give
back to the community.
We have been fortunate
as a Chapter to
participate in the
Tri-Lateral Security
Conference for the past
four years; as a
founding partner with
SPIE, HTCIA and the
University of Calgary,
we are truly offering
the best quality
educational in a
security event anywhere
in Canada that brings
added value to the
industry as a whole.
This event benefits
our Chapter in so many
ways. New for the
Tri-Lateral this year we
are partnering with
CANASA at the Deerfoot
Inn and Casino on May
12-13, for another
fantastic event. We hope
you will join us there.
Throughout the year, we
communicate with you
through regular e-mail
notifications from our
Communications Director,
Ryan Petersen, CPP, or
through the
www.asis162.org
website to help you stay
up to date with courses,
events or activities.
Our Webmaster, volunteer
Manuel Avila CPP, works
hard on the website to
create a forum that is
professional and easy to
navigate. Our newsletter
has been a
conduit and a mechanism
for sharing information
about our members and
the Chapter. If you have
any story ideas or would
like to submit an
article or picture,
please contact Gina
Arbeau, our Chapter
Newsletter Editor at
newsletter@asis162.org.
As a member, I encourage
you to seek information about becoming
Board
Certified in Security
Management with the
Certified Protection
Professional (CPP),
Physical Security
Professional (PSP) or
Professional Certified
Investigator (PCI)
designations. We
are fortunate to have
Glen Kitteringham, CPP,
Sean Bolli, CPP, and new
volunteer and current
member of the RCMP,
Terrence Zeniuk, CPP, as
our in-house trainers
for preparing for the
CPP. I encourage you to
speak to Glen, Sean or
Terrance if you are
interested in learning
more about the process
and methods for
attaining any of these
worthwhile
certifications.
Best regards,
Kathy Macdonald, CPP |
